The company

MSTVision GmbH was founded in 2016 by Michael Stelzl, initially as a one-man company in Mainz. In the following months, he continuously built up a qualified team, which optimally meets the requirements of the customers. MSTVision offers excellent, high-quality and reliable solutions for industrial image processing.

Our team

Michael Stelzl, Founder and Owner

Before his entrepreneurial activity, Michael Stelzl worked as a freelanced engineer and was employed as a project manager at Schott AG for more than ten years. He has been active in the industrial environment for more than 20 years – both nationally and internationally.
His areas of responsibility were and are manifold: the development of efficient image processing solutions (e.g. solar), the procurement and commissioning of capital-intensive inspection systems (e.g. display glass) or the procurement and self-construction of the entire measurement technology for a semiconductor project.

Since 2014, he also started a teaching position for “Optotechnology and Image Processing” at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule Darmstadt). He has been a member of the VDI/VDE-GMA Technical Committee “Image Processing in Measurement and Automation Technology” since 2013.

Michael Stelzl originally completed a degree in Physical Engineering (Dipl.-Ing (FH)) and an MBA.

Oliver Gräff, Project Manager

Oliver Gräff is project manager at MSTVision GmbH. His work focuses on script development with Halcon and Visual Applets. In previous positions he was involved in the development of line scan camera based inspection systems for the insulating glass industry, worked on measurement technology projects, was responsible for script development with Halcon and software development in C#. Since 2010 he has been working in the field of MultiChannel technology and has many years of experience with line scan cameras.

He studied physics at the TU Darmstadt (focus on optics) and graduated with a Master of Science at Schott AG.

Simon Wezstein, Project Engineer

Simon Wezstein has been working as a project engineer at MSTVision GmbH since 2021. His areas of responsibility lie in image processing with Python, C/C++, C#, VisualApplets and Halcon. He also brings with him knowledge of operating systems such as Linux. He supports our projects with his expertise in automation technology and IT. Simon started at MSTVision in 2017, at that time still as a student assistant during his studies of Machine Vision and Photonics at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. He wrote and successfully completed his bachelor’s thesis entitled “FPGA-supported high-speed photometric stereo for line scan camera applications” during this time. His subsequent Master’s degree also ended with a thesis in the field of FPGA image processing. Prior to his studies, he completed an apprenticeship as an electronics technician for automation technology and further trained as a state-certified technician in the field of electrical engineering.

Tassilo Wagner, Software Developer

Tassilo Wagner first studied computer science at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. During his Master’s degree in Natural Science Computer Science with a focus on Experimental Physics, he already worked at MSTVision and has been supporting the team since his Master’s degree in 2021, mainly in theoretical and practical aspects of software development and architecture until today.

Peter Czepelka, Project Engineer

After completing his vocational training as a mechatronics engineer, Peter Czepelka studied mechanical engineering at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences. This was followed by a Master’s degree at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. Parallel to his studies, he worked as a student trainee in the field of laser processing of glass. Among other things, Peter was self-employed as a service provider and was already working with MSTVision at that time. To this day, his main focus is on the conception and design of technical set-ups, for example prototypes, demonstrators for trade shows and the development of customised optomechanical components. In addition, he is distinguished by his experience in manufacturing technology and his craftsmanship. Since March 2022, Peter has been supporting the team as a full-time member in the development of technical solutions.

Johannes Schmitt, Operations Manager

Johannes Schmitt studied industrial engineering with a technical specialization in mechanical engineering as a bachelor’s degree at the Technical University of Darmstadt. After his studies, he worked in the product management of a trading company. Since July 2022, Johannes supports the MSTVision team as Operations Manager and is responsible, among other things, for the development of internal processes.
