Omnicell GmbH, headquartered in Darmstadt, offers a wide range of solutions for pharmacies. These include a comprehensive portfolio of SureMed blister cards as well as technologies for filling these blister cards according to individual patient needs. In addition to manual and automated solutions, the portfolio also includes the fill2light system. This system supports the filling process through a visual light guidance system that provides targeted instructions to the user, thereby ensuring a safe and error-free workflow.
As part of our collaboration, we have significantly enhanced the fill2light Safety module with an AI-based detection solution, thereby substantially improving the quality of manual blister packaging.
The goal of the project was to reliably detect whether individual blister compartments are correctly filled with tablets or not.
Using modern AI algorithms, we were able to achieve a significant leap in detection quality. The solution automatically detects empty or filled cells, thereby supporting safe and traceable filling of the blister cards. The AI-powered image analysis integrates seamlessly into the fill2light process and contributes significantly to reducing filling errors, increasing medication safety, and reducing the workload on pharmacy staff.
From the very beginning, our collaboration with Omnicell has been based on partnership, goal-oriented, and conducted on an equal technical footing. Together, we have succeeded in implementing a practical solution that effectively integrates modern AI technology with established systems in the pharmacy.
