For demanding sorting applications, we develop not only the image processing and software, but also the dedicated hardware required for precise system control. Our in-house developed boards provide the interface between the framegrabber, trigger signals, and the actuators of the sorting system.
The architecture is modular and can be flexibly adapted to different machine concepts and performance requirements. By combining MSTTrigger, MSTBreakout, MSTPara32, and MSTMatrix32, a large number of outputs can be controlled at high speed and with precise timing.
Depending on the configuration, up to 1,024 high-speed valves or other actuators per framegrabber can be integrated. This makes the architecture suitable for both compact sorting machines and highly scalable multi-camera systems.
The MSTTrigger Board provides similar functionality and specifications to the BASLER OPTO Trigger 5 board. It connects directly to compatible BASLER framegrabbers via a flat ribbon cable. In addition, the MSTTrigger Board features one D-SUB 25 connector instead of two D-SUB 15 connectors, as well as two RJ45 ports that can be flexibly configured for any combination of eight differential inputs and outputs. An additional connection to the mainboard power supply provides 5 V and 12 V for external components.
The MSTBreakout Board provides a simple and convenient way to connect MSTTrigger Boards or Silicon Software Opto Trigger 5 boards to external components. For signal connectivity, the board features one D-SUB 25 or two D-SUB 15 connectors, as well as convenient terminal block connectors. Status LEDs indicate the available 5 V, 12 V or 24 V supply voltages and provide a clear indication of the current state of each input and output. For detailed signal analysis, the MSTBreakout Board can also be connected to a logic analyzer via a flat ribbon cable.
The MSTMatrix32 Board is specifically designed for outputs that require speed-up technology, such as high-speed valves from MATRIX Mechatronics. In these applications, it can be used instead of the MSTPara32 Board. The board supports switching frequencies of up to 2 kHz per channel and provides a boost current of more than 1 A at 24 V per channel. Connections are made using standard Ethernet cables, while multiple MSTMatrix32 Boards can be connected via daisy chaining and terminated with a termination resistor. The MSTMatrix32 is also optionally available with a Parallel Input Board, allowing multiple input signals to be logically ORed to a single physical output. This is particularly useful in multi-camera systems with overlapping detection regions.
The MSTPara32 Board provides 32 general-purpose outputs for controlling a wide range of external components, such as high-speed valves from Festo or LEDs. Depending on the supply voltage, the outputs operate from 5 to 24 V. Each channel supports a continuous output current of more than 500 mA at 24 V and a boost current of more than 1 A at 24 V. With switching frequencies of up to 4 kHz per channel, the board is particularly well suited for fast and precise sorting applications. Status LEDs indicate the current state of each individual output. Connections are made using standard Ethernet cables, and multiple MSTPara32 Boards can be connected via daisy chaining and terminated with a termination resistor. This allows the number of required outputs to be scaled easily and flexibly.
