Expanding the possibilities of Photometric Stereo illumination 💡
PS Advanced is already well established with ring light configurations. However, when inspecting shiny or highly reflective surfaces, alternative illumination concepts can deliver even better results.
In a recent customer feasibility study, we combined PS Advanced with the CCS LFXV Flat Dome Series, using a 100 × 100 mm Flat Dome together with a 24 MP camera. The result was a compact, high-resolution Photometric Stereo setup achieving 5 µm resolution on a reflective object surface.
What makes the Flat Dome particularly interesting is its ability to combine the diffuse, uniform illumination characteristics of traditional dome lighting with a very compact design. Unlike conventional dome illuminations, it does not require a camera viewing hole, which can create a central artifact in the image. This results in more uniform illumination and cleaner, more consistent image data.
